VERNONA JEPSEN SCHOLARSHIP HISTORY
The Jepsen Scholarship is named for Vernona Jepsen, a longtime QC IA Davenport-Bettendorf Branch/ AAUW member, who left an endowment fund in her will to the Branch, with the proviso that only the interest on the fund could be used for scholarship operations. The Vernona Jepsen Scholarship is one part of one of the Branch’s 501©(3) Charitable Trust which was established in 1972. The scholarships are to be awarded to females already pursuing career goals by attending institutions of higher education and demonstrating success at the freshman (1st year) or higher levels. Each applicant must have a legal permanent residence in the Quad-City metro area and be able to show a college/university enrollment that indicates a continuing pursuit of education, a good record-to-date and a definitive financial need. The scholarship funds are not retroactive. Half of the award is paid in September, while the 2nd half is paid in January of the scholarship award year. Previous Davenport-Bettendorf scholarship recipients may re-apply.
