Iowa Quad Cities Rotary - Lawrence E. (Larry) Barker Memorial "Good Steward" Scholarship

This scholarship was created in 2020 by members of the Iowa Quad Cities Rotary Club in memory of one of their past presidents and loyal members, Larry Barker. Larry served on their Board of Directors for many years and was a member of the club’s endowment committee, which has oversight of the club’s scholarships awarded each year. In addition, while he was able, he volunteered to be a part of every fund raiser and project in which the Iowa Quad Cities Rotary Club was involved.

Larry’s total life was dedicated to serving his community in a way that utilized his talents and financial resources to their fullest potential. He served his community as the Director of the Scott County Health Department for thirty years. In addition to his service to Rotary, he served on the boards of United Way and the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa.

“Paying it Forward” was a belief that Larry epitomized. Whenever he was called upon, Larry rarely hesitated to step up to serve! It is the hope of the club that the student receiving this award would best honor Larry’s memory, by emulating Larry’s commitment to always be a “Good Steward”.
