Lt. Mark P. Kakert Memorial Fire Prevention & Education Foundation Scholarship
Mark P. Kakert was a Lt. Fire Marshal for the City of Davenport for almost 30 years, specializing in fire prevention and education. After his sudden passing in May 2016, the foundation was created in hopes of continuing his legacy and passion for his career in public service. The mission of the Lt. Mark P. Kakert Memorial Fire Prevention & Education Foundation is to raise awareness and funds for fire safety, prevention and education in local communities.
In Memory of Lt. Mark P. Kakert
Mark began his career with the Davenport Fire Department in May 1987. His passion for his line of work soon had him promoted from Engineer to Lieutenant. His passion was evident to all those around him leading Mark to be recognized as the recipient of the Fireman of the Year award that same year. Mark also served as a first responder EMT. He was deeply devoted to educating people with The Fire Prevention Bureau. Friend and former co-worker, Brian Jacobson, stated “[Mark’s] extensive love for Fire Prevention showed the community and the State of Iowa that lives could be saved through prevention efforts. He impacted the lives of countless people, keeping them safe through his unstoppable passion.”
This scholarship was established to carry on Mark’s legacy and help individuals who share his same passion and devotion pursue a career in public service. The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1,000 to use towards education costs.
- Must be a high school senior or older who is/would like to pursuing a career in public service
- Provide the following:
– Application form/Essay question
– Letter of Recommendation
